The Downfall of Red Meat – A Reality

People are choosing plant-based foods. The craze for eating everyday red meat is not so common nowadays. Indeed, the downfall of red meat is a reality. It was earlier questioned why? But, the studies and researches cleared it all. There’s no dilemma in the fact that there are several health implications related to the use of red meat. But, still, why? Why red meat’s reputation got so blemished despite it contains vitamins and minerals? When researchers claim that eating pork and lamb increases the risk of diseases like cancer, things turned totally against red meat. Further investigations favored the statement, and steadily, the downfall of people’s daily staple started. So, let’s read on to find out which health ailments are triggered by red flesh. 

Cancer

The world was almost in shock when the World Health Organization itself published against red meat. In 2015, WHO claimed that red flesh is probably carcinogenic to humans.” With these four sentences, the entire world got the answer about their all-time concern whether red flesh is good or bad. To simplify, it means that yes, there are chances that red meat can increase the risk of cancer in human beings. And it’s well-established. 

Things got more dissatisfactory to people when the WHO experts attested that every type of processed red meat is unhealthy for humans. They said the evidence they’ve got is sufficient to support the claim. It was really difficult for the people at the beginning to accept this, but soon the love for red flesh started declining. 

To support their claim further, again, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer reviewed more than 800 studies. And what they concluded was beyond expectations. According to them, regular eating of around 50 grams of pork or beef increases the peril of cancer by 18 percent.

Kidney Failure

People were in the way of digesting the fact about cancer, but amidst a new thing came on. According to that, eating pork and beef even mutton can lead to kidney failure. From there, the actual downfall of red meat started. A study conducted by US surgeons affirmed that along with kidney issues, red meat also triggers Diabetes and high blood pressure. 

The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology also stated that the risk of renal failure escalates by 40 percent with regular eating of red meat. One of the doctors in their statements said that it’s better to find substitutes of red meat. After that, people started switching to plant-based proteins gradually. 

Heart Diseases

Approximately 6.1 million people die every year in the United States due to heart failure. And we all know this already that an unhealthy diet full of Cholesterol is one of the major reasons for cardiovascular problems. Unfortunately, many studies also say that red flesh falls in the category of harmful diet forms. 

The mystery got resolved when a 2014 study declared that processed red meat increases the risk of cardiovascular issues to a great extent. Whether you eat more or less, it does not make any difference. The risks remain the same. However, recently, a single thing has come in favor of red meat. According to Purdue University Lafayette, IN, 3 ounces of red meat consumption never adds up to heart ailments. Moreover, beef and pork contain a lot of saturated fats, which is not suitable for our love organ in any way. High Cholesterol and fat contents only make situations worse for your heart. 

Stomach Issues

Not limited to the above intricacies only, red meat can disturb the whole functioning of your tummy. It causes inflammation that later leads to stomach aches, vomitings, and swelling in the lining of the abdomen. Basically, when a person consumes more than required fibers, it causes a problem, diverticulitis. It’s a condition in which your stomach doesn’t function properly and become unable to digest everything. And sadly, red crux has contents that cause diverticulitis.

To sum up, our health experts are supporting their claims. And denying them is like neglecting our health. So, yes, it is under research whether cooking red meat in discrete ways can reduce the risk of health implications or not. But, for now, the change is waving towards good. All in all, it’s clear that the future of red meat is a bit dark.
